Making the last Metro

It is so sad to be alone in the metro station after missing the last train of the night.
I feel so successful, if I can make the last metro home at the end of a night out in Paris. The metro stops running at 1pm on week days and 2pm on weekends. You need to be on the metro before that because if you have to transfer trains you may miss your connections. There have been many times were I think I made the last metro home but miss the transfer train. If I miss the last metro, I often find myself, trying to figure out a night bus home, ride a city bike or more often times then not just walking the long trek home. I , of course push it to the last minute possible to try and make the metro all the way home. I find it hard to pull myself away from my last drink or conversation I am having in order to make it home. So when I actually do make the lat metro home, I feel victorious!

La Baguette

There is nothing like being a fresh baguette. Almost every day, I  get a fresh backed baguette from the bakery.  They are good to eat with any meal. It is only about one euro.  Yum!

Velib!

If you know me, you know how much I love bikes and bike riding. Paris couldn't be a better fit for me and bikes. The city has Velib stations all over the city. It is such a bike friendly city, with tons of  bike lanes and bike signs to help get you where you need to go. The Velib is simple to use. If you are visiting Paris just find a Velib station. The machine is very easy to use with several different languages. You must put a $150 deposit  on your cc to use the bike. One trip cost 1.70 euro for a day. The first half hour is free, then you will be charged the fixed hourly price, if you have the bike out longer. Most rides around the city are under 30 mins! There are also long term plans. I paid just 30 euro to use it for the year. The website is  easy to use with tons of information.( http://en.velib.paris.fr/ )When you get to your destination, there is sure to be a Velib station near to return the bike. It is easy to return. When you are ready leave just pick a new bike and start biking again!

Vins,Vino,Wine

It doesn't matter what language you say it in, there nothing like a good bottle of wine! I have been spoiled growing up in California. Where you can get a good bottle of wine for a cheap price. As I am now living in France, I feel the same way. You can get a good bottle of wine for about 4 euros. The best thing about a bottle of wine is you can re cork it and save the rest for later. I love having a glass after a long day at work. I also enjoy bring a bottle to the park for a picnic. Wine goes with everything!

Grouplove

Grouplove's, Never Trust a Happy Song, has been my go to music for the last couple of months. Their music just makes me want to dance and puts me in a good mood!

Diana F+

This weekend, I picked up a new camera the Diana F+ . It is a camera that uses 120mm film. Yes, real film! Which already has been a change from clicking away on my cannon, point and shoot. It makes you really think about your photo and what you are trying to capture. I am super excited to experiment with taking photo. I plan to hits the street of Paris for some super shots.

DP Stream

DPstream is a french site, where you can stream TV series, and movies. I  would be lost with out it. A friend told me about this site. I was complaining about how much time and money, I was spending downloading from itunes. I was trying to stay update with my T.V. shows from back home. It is really the little things you miss while away. There is really something comforting about spending an hour or two watching a show from back home in your native language. The site lets you watch for free for at least 60 minutes a day. You can join the site for a small monthly fee and have unlimited time watching. They all the current shows. The shows all have french subtitles which I don't mind as I am trying to learn some french!

Hair cut,oh hair cut

Yesterday, I got my first Parisian hair cut. I spent 2/3 of my weekly pay check to get a trim, that took the women a whole five minutes to cut. I had been putting off, for a while now and my ends, where at their ends. So I sucked it up and spent the money to get a trim. I have been fortunate to have that my good friends cuts my hair for an affordable price for years. She is always coming up with new creative ways to keep my hair hip and on the cutting edge. After this hair cut it definitely a remind of how spoiled and grateful I am to have a friend who is talented do my hair. Maren Dooley Davis also have been cutting my hair for years. She spends here time between living and working in Long Beach,CA but also is often up in the Bay Area to do hair as well. I do have to say my hair looks and feel better after my recent hair cut. So, I guess it was money well spent.

Tour Eiffel

I literally, live two blocks from the Eiffel Tower. It is amazing. We can see it from our apartment window. I get to see the Tour Eiffel ( as the french call it) every day! I love it. It never gets old. I never get tired of taking pictures of it. In the spring and summer, I spend the day having a picnic at the Champs de Mars, the park next to the Tour Eiffel. You can also spend the evening at the park drinking a bottle of wine waiting for the Tour Eiffel to sparkle! The Tour Eiffel sparkles ever hour on the hour in the evenings for five minutes. It is one of my favorite things to do and see in Paris. It so magical. I feel so grateful to be able to see the Tour Eiffel every day. I know that most people will never get to see it up close in person. This site of it is also a reminder to me of how fortunate I am, to be able to live and work in Paris.

Back Attack!

So, we can all see I failed at this whole blogging thing the first time around. I am back one  year later to give it another try! I am currently living Paris working only part time. I have more time on my hands and less money. I am sure, this will help me to be more aware of the little things in life.
